No scope for charging extra fare after fuel price cut: Adviser

Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Thursday said there is no scope for charging extra fares on buses since the prices of fuel have been slashed.

“Action will be taken if anyone still does so,” he said while talking to the media after visiting the Sayedabad bus terminal in Dhaka this morning.

Meanwhile, thousands of travellers have started leaving the capital by different modes of transport to reach their destinations to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on 7 June.

Fouzul, also the railways adviser, said necessary steps have been taken to ensure a hassle-free Eid journey for the people, while actions are being taken wherever irregularities are found. “We are also addressing traffic congestion with sincerity.”

On 31 May, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources cut the prices of diesel, petrol, and octane for the month of June.

Under the revised pricing, diesel has been set at Tk102 per litre, down from Tk104. Petrol has been reduced to Tk118 per litre from Tk121, and octane to Tk122 per litre from Tk125. The price of kerosene has also been revised and fixed at Tk114 per litre.

In May, fuel prices were reduced by Tk1 per litre. In April, prices for all types of fuel—petrol, octane, diesel, and kerosene – remained unchanged.
