Leading cultural organisation Tritorongo in Chattogram hosted a special event titled “Jokhon Porbe Na Mor Payer Chinho EiBaate” at its Nasirabad office to commemorate the 84th death anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore on 22nd Srabon, Friday evening.
Osman Gani Mansur, president of Tritoraogo’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Committee and Editor of The Daily People’s View chaired the event while ShawonPantho, Founder and General Secretary of the organization delivered the welcome speech.
Ijabur Rahman, Founder and Secretary General of Uplobdhi Foundation, and cultural activist Rakhee Dey participated in the discussion.
The programme commenced with a group performance by child artistes of Tritorongo Sangeet Academy.
Shawon Pantho and Afsana Alam recited selected poems by Rabindranath Tagore, while solo musical performances were presented by singers Suborna Rahman, Sheela Chowdhury, Monowar Hossain, Nuzhat Islam, and Diana Anan, among others.
In a notable segment, Nuzhat Islam read a passage from Madhyanya, a book by Humayun Ahmed, narrating the final moments of Tagore’s life.
“Rabindranath Tagore remains our unmatched companion in every facet of life—joy and sorrow, union and separation, celebration and grief, birth and death. His music, his verses, and his philosophical vision illuminate paths even in our darkest times. He is not merely a poet of Bengal, but a poet of humanity.”ShawonPantho said in his welcome address.
While highlighting the unique contribution of Tagore to Bengali literature, Osman Gani Mansur Said, “Rabindranath is a marvel of Bengali literature. Among all that Bengalis can take pride in, he stands supreme. His writings give us strength in times of crisis. Until his last breath, he continued to write. In his final moments, he reportedly told his aide: ‘The end is near — let no one be told.’”
He also quoted what many consider one of Tagore’s final poetic messages:
“Death may be afraid of me; I call upon death.”
“Remembering this sage-poet is a sacred duty for every Bengali, Mansur continued adding that. Tritaranga has commemorated this day with reverence every year, and I hope this tradition continues”
