Thousands of people gathered in Dhaka on Monday for a lively Eid-ul-Fitr procession organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), spreading festive cheer across the city.
The procession began at 9:00 AM from the old Trade Fair grounds near the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre, led by Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz.
The vibrant march made its way through Agargaon and the Khamar Bari intersection, culminating at Manik Mia Avenue. To ensure safety, police Counter Terrorism and SWAT teams closely monitored the event.
The procession was a visual spectacle, featuring a royal horse, approximately 20 horse-drawn carriages, a marching band, and displays inspired by the Sultanate and Mughal eras. DNCC placards carried throughout the event spread messages promoting unity and social harmony, including slogans like “Eid means harmony,” “Eid brings a message of joy,” and “Let’s keep our city clean—don’t litter.”
After the procession, Asif Mahmud attended a brief cultural program at Manik Mia Avenue, where participants enjoyed traditional Eid treats such as shemai (vermicelli) and batasha (sugar candies), both rooted in Dhaka’s culinary traditions.
Security was reinforced by several army vehicles stationed in the area. Earlier, the main Eid prayer for Dhaka North was held at 8:30 AM at the old Trade Fair grounds, led by Imam Qari Golam Mostafa, with Mufti Zubair Ahmad Al-Azhari of the Islamic Foundation assisting.
