Ritu Porna’s stunning goals power Bangladesh to Asian Cup qualification

When the stakes are highest, Ritu Porna Chakma delivers. And on Wednesday, she did it once again, leading Bangladesh to a historic 2-1 victory over Myanmar and securing the country’s first-ever qualification for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

In a high-pressure match against a side ranked 73 places higher, Ritu rose to the occasion, not once, but twice. Her sensational long-range strike in the 71st minute sealed the win in dramatic fashion. Picking up the ball on the left edge of the box, she unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that curled into the top corner, leaving the Myanmar goalkeeper motionless. It was a goal that not only secured victory but once again underlined Ritu’s reputation for scoring spectacular goals when they matter most.

Earlier in the first half, it was Ritu who broke the deadlock with a clever finish after a deflected free-kick returned to her feet. The opener helped settle nerves and gave Bangladesh the momentum they needed.

This is not the first time Ritu has risen to the occasion. From the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship final, where she netted a tournament-winning curler, to her thunderous strike against Bahrain at the start of the Asian Cup qualifiers, Ritu has made a habit of stepping up in crucial moments.

Whether it was her early goal against Bhutan in the SAFF 2024 semifinal or her long-range effort against Pakistan in the 2022 edition, Ritu has consistently delivered when her team needed her most.

Each of her goals has been more than just a highlight — they’ve shifted the course of games, lifted trophies, and now, earned Bangladesh a place on Asia’s biggest stage.

For Bangladesh women’s football, this victory is a milestone. And for Ritu Porna Chakma, it’s yet another reminder that she doesn’t just score goals — she scores game-changing bangers.
