Upcoming election to be best one in history of Bangladesh: CA

Chief Adviser Prof Mohammar Yunus has said that the upcoming national election will be the best one in the history of Bangladesh.

“We are heading towards holding a real election after 17 years and it is expected to be the best in the history of Bangladesh,” Yunus told a questioner while addressing a programme hosted by the Royal Institute of International Affairs at Chatham House in London on Wednesday.

Remembering the young generation’s contribution to make the July uprising successful, Yunus, also a Nobel Laureate, said the youth gave their blood not only for the election but also to build a country to be free from discrimination.

“We have formed reform commissions for every sector and. We want to reach a national consensus based on the recommendations of the commissions,” he said.

The chief adviser underscored the need to reduce global carbon emissions and unemployment to zero and to build a hunger-free world for the greater interest of the future generation.

“The current global economy and social infrastructure pose a serious threat to humanity. We have built a flawed and self-destructive civilisation. We must undertake effective steps to change this trend,” he said.

He said the entire world should focus on reducing global carbon emissions and unemployment to zero and to build a world where no one will be starved.

As part of his public diplomacy efforts, the chief adviser delivered the special speech at the main hall of Chatham House from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm London time.

The session was recorded, live streamed and partially opened to the media, according to the programme schedule of the chief adviser.
