Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called on district commissioner to work independently and without fear of intimidation. He emphasized that under the current government, there is no need to act based on pressure or threats from others.
Dr. Yunus made these comments on Sunday, during the inauguration of a three-day District Commissioner (DC) Conference at the Shapla Hall of the Chief Advisor’s Office.
He urged the district commissioners (DC) to focus on what is legally required and what is in the best interest of the country. “You should do what is needed for the country, according to the law,” he stated. Dr. Yunus also directed the DCs to remain vigilant in maintaining law and order at the local level, and to take necessary measures to control the prices of essential commodities.
The Chief Advisor noted that while laws have been enacted, they have not always reached rural areas. He warned against unnecessary harassment of the public and stressed the need to reverse the idea that government actions should be a source of trouble for citizens. “We must change the mindset that government means harassing people. The government’s role is to ensure citizens’ rights reach them, and we must keep that in mind,” he said.
Dr. Yunus further reassured the district administrators that they should not feel pressured by threats or intimidation. “In this interim government, there is no need to follow threats from anyone,” he emphasized. He added that his focus would remain on doing what is right for the country, according to the law, and that he would remain committed to his responsibilities.
The Chief Advisor also underscored the importance of maintaining peace and order as the highest priority. “In these times, ensuring law and order is the most crucial issue,” Dr. Yunus said. “We must not fail in this area, as our achievements depend on our success in maintaining peace and order.” He urged the DCs to discuss and address these issues during the conference to ensure clarity and effective implementation when they return to their respective districts.
