Protest of suspense order for 10 Students at CU

Students at Chittagong University (CU) held a human chain protest on Sunday, demanding the withdrawal of suspense orders for 10 students and condemning the inappropriate remarks made by the university’s proctor.

The protest took place at the university’s Shaheed Minar at noon, where several students voiced their concerns.

Yasin Arafat, a student from the Philosophy Department, stated, “A politically motivated group has vandalized the women’s residential hall yard, and the administration showed no concern for that. Instead, they focused on why the women were blocking the entry. This clearly shows that this administration is misogynistic and politically biased. When concerns were raised about the expelled female students and their rights, the proctor claimed they had fallen into a ‘honey trap.’ How much more shameful can it get?”

Naushin Tabassum, a student from the English Department, posed three questions to the administration: “First, how is the symbol of fascism, the boat, still present after August 5? Why hasn’t the administration taken any action to remove it? Second, the students didn’t plan the vandalism on the spot; the noise was heard from Shaheed Minar. Why didn’t the administration take action to stop them? Third, when the students were vandalizing in front of Sheikh Hasina Hall, why didn’t the proctor intervene to stop them?”

During the protest, the students demanded the immediate withdrawal of the expulsion orders and an official apology from the proctor, Professor Dr. Tanveer Mohammad Haider Arif, for his inappropriate comments.
