Pahela Baishakh unites Bangladesh beyond all divides

Bengali New Year emerges as the strongest expression of secular and cultural solidarity

Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, marks a unique celebration of secularism and cultural unity among Bengalis. People from all religions, castes, and beliefs come together in vibrant festivities, reflecting a longstanding historical tradition of inclusivity on this day

Mr. Sarwar Jaman Nizam, member of parliament, made these observations while speaking as chief guest at a discussion titled “Banglar Niswas, Banglar Songskriti”, organized by Chattogram Rotary Center on Monday.

Osman Gani Mansur, President of the Rotary Center chaired the event while Khan Ranjan Ray, Member Secretary of the New Year Celebration Committee moderated it.

Professor Fatema Jebunnessa, Convener of the committee, delivered the welcome address.

Members and families from around 50 Rotary Clubs in Chattogram attended the program where PDG Abdul Awal, PDG Abdul Ahad, Rina Jaman, PDG Engineer Matiur Rahman, Dr. Mainul Islam Mahmud, Professor Dr. Imran Bin Yunus, Ekushey Padak-winning flautist Captain Azizul Islam, Nurul Alam Kiron, Meer Nazmul Ahsan Robin, Secretary Omar Ali Faisal and Ali Mahabub spoke among others.

The event began with an inaugural dance by artists from National Cultural Academy, choreographed by Adiba Farhan and followed by performances including dance, music, recitation and a Bengali fashion show by invited artists.

The second segment featured a musical program conducted by cultural personality Shawon Panth, Director General of cultural organization Tritorongo and performances by members of the Rotary family coordinated by Shaila Mahmud.

During the interlude, attendees enjoyed a traditional Bengali meal of panta bhat and bhorta, adding a distinct cultural flavor to the celebration.
