The interim government has dismissed reports suggesting a sharp rise in crime across the country, saying official statistics indicate stability in most crime categories over the past ten months.
In a statement released today, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said recent media reports have portrayed an alarming rise in crime, which has contributed to public concern. However, data from the Police Headquarters does not fully support these claims.
“From September 2024 to June 2025, the figures show no evidence of a major crime wave,” the statement read. “In fact, many serious crimes have either decreased or remained consistent.”
The press wing acknowledged that while a few categories have seen some increase, overall trends reflect law enforcement’s effective control over the situation.
“Citizens are encouraged to stay alert but should also have confidence in the efforts of law enforcement agencies, as crime levels remain relatively steady,” the statement added.
To back its claims, the government released two tables detailing crime statistics from the past five years and the most recent ten-month period — all sourced from the Police Headquarters.
