32 killed in two separate bus crashes in Mexico

At least 32 people lost their lives on Monday in two separate bus accidents in Mexico, authorities reported.

In Oaxaca state, located in southern Mexico, a bus overturned along a highway, killing 18 people. Twelve others were injured and remain hospitalized. The state government confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation into the cause of the crash would be launched. The accident occurred near the community of Santo Domingo Narro. Reports suggest the victims were supporters of the ruling left-wing party, returning from a rally in Mexico City where President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke out against US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs.

In northern Mexico, a fiery collision between a tractor-trailer and a bus in Durango state left 14 people dead. The bus was carrying passengers from Texas, USA, and of the 24 people on board, only 10 survived. Civil protection authorities in Durango confirmed the tragic incident.

Road accidents are unfortunately common in Mexico, often caused by high speeds, poor road or vehicle conditions, and driver fatigue. Each year, over 15,000 people are killed on Mexican roads. This follows a similar incident in February, where 38 people died when a truck collided head-on with a bus in Campeche state.
