The recent vandalism at House No. 32 in Dhanmondi has been deemed an unwanted and unexpected incident. The public’s deep anger, triggered by provocative statements made by fugitive Sheikh Hasina against the July uprising while in India, has found its expression through this act.
On Thursday (February 6), an official statement from the Interim Government revealed this information. The statement mentioned that there had been no attacks or destruction at House No. 32 in the past six months, but the incident occurred following Sheikh Hasina’s controversial remarks.
The statement elaborated on two main points raised by the fugitive former Prime Minister. First, Hasina’s remarks about those who sacrificed their lives during the July uprising were disrespectful and offensive, making unsubstantiated and hateful comments about the martyrs’ deaths.
Secondly, despite fleeing the country after the uprising, Sheikh Hasina continued to speak in the same threatening tone she did while in power, continuing her verbal attacks on the people involved in the July uprising, even after escaping the country. Her statements have been seen as a threat to the country’s stability.
The statement further clarified that the public’s wounds related to the July massacre have been aggravated by Sheikh Hasina’s continuous remarks, and the vandalism at House No. 32 is a direct response to her violent behavior.
The Interim Government also reassured the public that the country’s security forces are on high alert to protect national security and control the situation. They are actively working to restore order.
It was noted that the recurrence of such incidents could be avoided if Sheikh Hasina refrains from making provocative statements. The government urged India not to allow its territory to be used for actions that destabilize Bangladesh and called for her to be prevented from making such remarks.
The Interim Government also stated its commitment to ensuring justice for those involved in the July massacre, with ongoing legal proceedings to bring the perpetrators to justice. Furthermore, it emphasized that the government would review potential legal actions against those involved in provocative activities.
