Robbery accused found dead in Ctg police lock-up

The body of a youth, accused in a robbery case, was found inside the lock-up of Chandgaon Police Station in Chattogram city. The body was found hanging from a ventilator on the lock-up room’s wall on Wednesday (July 3) morning.

The deceased was identified as Jewel (26) a resident of Khejurtala of ​​Chandgaon area in the city.

The police said there are at least seven cases on various charges including robbery against Jewel.

Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Kabir said that Jewel was arrested following an arrest warrant from Patharghata area of ​​Kotwali police station on Tuesday around 12:30 pm. He was kept in the police station’s lock-up room. His body was found in the next day. The CCTV footage showed that he committed suicide by hanging himself.

The OC said that the body is being sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

According to the family members,Jewel was a driver of battery-run auto-rickshaw .

Jewel’s sister Salma Begum told reporters that Jewel’s rickshaw was stolen from the Kotwali area a few days ago. and the owner of the rickshaw put a lot of pressure on him to give compensation. A few days prior to his arrest,he tried to commit suicide.
