Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 21 brokers from Chattogram Medical College Hospital (Chamek) during a special raid on Wednesday, June 25.

The arrests were made from different wards of the hospital. Later, a mobile court sentenced the arrested people to jail for different periods.

RAB-7 commander Hafizur Rahman said they are checking the background of all 21 arrested persons. Some of them had been caught before and were also punished, but they returned to the same illegal activities.

Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, director of the hospital, told reporters that broker groups have been active in the hospital for a long time. The hospital authority is working to stop them. He welcomed the RAB operation and said such drives should continue to keep the hospital free from brokers.

Executive Magistrate Shahed Ishraq of the District Administration said the arrested people were sentenced from 1 to 30 days in jail, depending on their crimes. Some were also fined. Many of them had been punished in the past for similar activities.
