Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan has said the government is working to bring English-medium education in Bangladesh under a unified framework to align the system with international educational standards.
Initiatives in this regard have already begun, he said, adding that the government would also work to address challenges related to examination systems and question paper leaks.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the Golden School Achiever event organized by UK-based international education board Learning Resource Network (LRN) at a luxury hotel in the capital.
LRN Chief Executive Dr Zuhaib Tariq, a British national chaired the event where Syed Habibur Rahman, investment and trade manager at the British High Commission in Dhaka; Professor Abdullah Al Mamun, a member of the University Grants Commission; Professor Dr Khan Mainuddin Md Sohel, director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education; Professor S.M. Kamal Uddin Haider, secretary of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education; Professor Humayun Ahmed, college inspector of the Dhaka Education Board; and Mohammad Nuruzzaman, CEO of Daffodil University among others attended.
Md Shoaib Chowdhury, LRN’s Bangladesh country head, delivered the welcome address.
Urging LRN to take further initiatives to improve the quality of education for English-medium graduates, Milan said the government has prioritized human capital development.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had allocated the highest-ever budget to the education sector to support this objective, he observed.
The minister also stressed the importance of studying Bangla extensively, noting that the language remains inadequately represented in several fields, including medicine, engineering and public university education.
More than 50 teachers and students were honored at the ceremony for their achievements.
