The Labour Reform Commission formally submitted its report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today at the State Guest House Jamuna.
The report was handed over to the Chief Adviser around 12 noon, according to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The 18-member commission, formed by the interim government, is headed by Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS). It was tasked with reviewing and recommending reforms in the country’s labour laws and practices.
Commission members include labour experts, former government officials, trade union leaders, legal professionals, and representatives from the business and industrial sectors. Among them are Dr Mahfuzul Haque, former secretary at the Ministries of Labour and Environment; Dr Jakir Hossain of Rajshahi University; Tapan Dutta of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre; Advocate AKM Nasim; M Kamran T Rahman, former president of the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation; and Syed Nasim Manzur, Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited.
The diverse panel also features Taslima Akhter, labour movement organiser; Ariful Islam, media activist; and representatives from key organisations such as the BGMEA, BEF, and various labour and political fronts.
The commission’s recommendations are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping future labour policy and ensuring workers’ rights and employer responsibilities in Bangladesh’s evolving economic landscape.
