Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has pledged that the upcoming national election, to be held between December 2025 and June 2026, will be the most free, fair, and transparent in Bangladesh’s history.

“We are committed to ensuring that this election becomes a milestone in the country’s democratic journey,” Dr. Yunus said on Thursday during a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The visiting ANFREL team included Executive Director Brizza Rosales, Consultant May Butoy, Senior Programme Officer Tharindu Abeyrathna, Programme Officer Ayan Rahman Khan, and Programme Associate Afsana Amey, according to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

ANFREL, a regional civil society network promoting electoral democracy in Asia, has played an active role in election observation and civic engagement for over 20 years. In the meeting, the delegation shared details about their current projects in Bangladesh, including efforts to restore independent, citizen-led election monitoring.

They also highlighted ongoing stakeholder mapping and needs assessments aimed at identifying ways to enhance civil society involvement and improve electoral transparency.

The ANFREL delegation welcomed the opportunity to engage with the chief adviser and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting credible and transparent elections in Bangladesh through continued cooperation with local stakeholders.
