Govt vows safe and hassle-free Eid travel: Adviser Fouzul

The government will take comprehensive measures to ensure a safe, smooth, and hassle-free journey for holidaymakers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, said Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and the Railways Ministry.

Speaking at a coordination meeting held at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka, Fouzul emphasized the government’s firm stance on preventing passenger harassment during Eid travel. “No additional fare will be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against any irregularities,” he said.

The meeting focused on ensuring public safety and convenience on roads, highways, bridges, and railways during the Eid rush. Officials stressed that law enforcement and relevant agencies would remain vigilant to curb extortion and ticket manipulation.

To ease traffic flow, the government plans to relocate sacrificial cattle markets away from main roads and highways. Bank booths will be set up at these markets to provide financial security to traders arriving from across the country.

Fouzul also announced that truck and covered van movement—except for emergency services—will be restricted from June 4 to 6 and again from June 12 to 14, aiming to prevent congestion during peak travel days.

Additional surveillance will be deployed in accident-prone zones, and steps will be taken to ensure immediate access to primary healthcare in the event of road mishaps.

Fouzul urged all stakeholders, including transport authorities and civil society, to work together to create a safe and orderly travel environment.

Also present at the meeting were LGRD and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Home Affairs Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant on Road Transport Sheikh Moinuddin, transport leaders, and civil society representatives.
