A new university, set to serve students from seven government colleges in Dhaka, will be named ‘Dhaka Central University’ (DCU), a decision made during a meeting of student representatives at the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Sunday.
The meeting included a 32-member student delegation and UGC Chairman SMA Faiz.
Initially, there was some division among the students regarding the name of the new university. Seventeen students voted in favor of ‘Dhaka Central University,’ while others preferred the name ‘Federal University.’ After further discussion, the students unanimously agreed on ‘Dhaka Central University.’
The seven colleges included in this initiative are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
