Activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and Awami League allegedly attacked the convoy of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Rokibul Hasan on Wednesday morning in Gandhiashur area.

The attack came after police vehicles were set on fire and vandalised in the Ulpur area of the upazila by BCL leaders and activists.

UNO Rakibul Hasan said the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) had planned a rally and public meeting at the municipal park in Gopalganj town on Wednesday as part of its month-long “July March to Build the Nation” programme.

“To disrupt the event, supporters of Awami League and Chhatra League first attacked police and then vandalised my convoy,” the UNO added.

Launched on 1 July, the NCP’s “July March to Rebuild the Nation” is being observed across different districts. Today’s Gopalganj event was part of the same programme.
