AKM Maksud Ahmed dubbed a journalist of excellence

A seminar titled ‘Role of Journalists in Tourism Development’ was held in the tourist city of Rangamati on Saturday (November 16) evening.

Bangladesh Sangbadik Community (BSC) that works for the rights of journalists organized the event.

Fazulol Quader Chowdhury, one of the members of the BSC’s advisory council, president of Cox’s Bazar District Press Club and editor of Daily Rupali Saikat chaired the program at Green Castel Hotel.

Earlier, senior journalist AKM Maksud Ahmed, who has been working for Daily Ittefa for 55 consecutive years and editor of local Daily Giri Darpan, was given a ‘warm reception’.

The executives of BSC gave him a standing ovation with the title of ‘Gem Journalist’ and the president of the event honored him with a sash around his neck. He was also presented with an attractive ‘Memorial of Honor’ followed by a remarkable ‘Declaration’ read out for why he was awarded the title of ‘Gem Journalist’.

BSC’s Chief Advisor and investigative journalist Saidur Rahman Rimon, Rangamati Police Superintendent (Tourist Police) Adnan Taiyan, Rangamati Press Club General Secretary Anwarul Haque, former Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Ali, Chattogram Pratidin and Alokito Chattogram Advisory Editor Ayan Sharma, The Daily Commercial Times Editor Lion Sujit Das and Dainik Alokito Chattogram Editor Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Akbari were present as invited guests on the occasion.

Gaurang Debnath Apu, a senior journalist working as BSC’s ‘Joint Convener’ and reporter of Pratidiner Bangladesh moderated the funciton while Md. Kamal Uddin, Rangamati correspondent of Boishakhi TV and coordinator of the seminar as well as jt. Convener of BSC gave the address of welcome.

Tourism entrepreneur and eloquent speaker Badsha Faisal, district correspondent of Banglavision working in Rangamati Nandan Debnath, district correspondent of Dainik Bangla Bazar Patrika Shantimoy Chakma, district correspondent of Channel News24 and Bangladesh Pratidin Fatema Jannat Mumu, president of Naikangchhari Press Club Abdur Rashid, two joint conveners of BSC Sohag Arefin, Haider Hossain and members including Nasir Uddin Pallab, Abdul Ahad, and Gias Uddin Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.

The speakers also presented several timely ‘recommendations’ for the development of tourism in Rangamati and improvement of the communication system with security for tourists.

The program ended with a cultural program where  local artists performed.
