The latest voter list update in Chattogram has added more than 300,000 new voters, bringing the district’s total registered voter count to approximately 6.85 million.

According to the updated data released by the Election Commission, 304,283 new voters have been enrolled in the district. Among the upazilas, Banshkhali saw the highest increase with 22,822 new voters. Other notable increases include 24,327 in Anwara, 21,376 in Rangunia, 17,740 in Fatikchhari, and 18,083 in Satkania.

Additional figures show voter increases in Mirsarai (15,051), Patiya (17,016), Hathazari (16,748), Sitakunda (16,062), Lohagara (21,214), Rauzan (13,989), Sandwip (13,796), Chandanaish (12,805), Boalkhali (12,017), and Karnaphuli (7,247).

Within the city areas, Double Mooring recorded the highest number of new registrations with 12,914 voters, while Kotwali had the fewest, with just 5,400 new voters.

Among the newly added voters, 77,670 are under the age of 18 and thus ineligible to vote in the next election. Additionally, 93,837 names were removed from the voter list due to death, and 24,799 people have been newly registered in Chattogram due to relocation from other areas.

District Election Officer Bashir Ahmed told that while over 300,000 new citizens have been registered, only those who are 18 or older will be eligible to vote in the next parliamentary election in 2026.

The nationwide voter list update began on January 20, 2025. Citizens born on or before January 1, 2008, were eligible to register. Biometric data collection in Chattogram ran from February 5 to April 11.

This update marks a significant step in preparing for the upcoming electoral process, ensuring wider participation and more accurate voter data in Chattogram.
