The second phase of the interim government in Bangladesh has officially begun with the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission, according to the press secretary of the chief adviser, Shafiqul Alam.

He emphasized that the new Bangladesh, which started after the coup, has received full support from around the world. Major countries have expressed their support, telling Bangladesh, “Whatever you need, we are with you.”

Alam made these remarks on Saturday (February 15) during a conversation with journalists at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Dhaka, after the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission with political parties.

Alam highlighted that the meeting was attended by around 100 political leaders from 26 parties and alliances, under the leadership of Dr. Yunus. The meeting is still ongoing, with all invited parties in attendance. BNP is led by its secretary-general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam, while Jamaat-e-Islami is represented by the party’s deputy Amir, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.

The press secretary further stated that the chief adviser gave a long speech during the meeting, explaining that the first six months of the interim government served as the first phase. With today’s meeting, the second phase of the interim government has now begun. The chief adviser also mentioned that the vision for the country’s future has the full support of both the national population and the global community, adding that the United Nations has expressed its complete support for the interim government.

Alam also referred to the report by the Human Rights Commission, which has made the world aware of the horrific mass killings that occurred in Bangladesh, as well as the ways in which the autocratic regime had stripped away citizens’ rights. However, following that coup, Alam emphasized, Bangladesh is now poised to build a new country, one that enjoys the support of the global community.

In terms of the invited parties and alliances, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mojumder mentioned several political parties and groups, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizens’ Committee, LDP, AB Party, Hefazat-e-Islam, the Bangladesh Islamic Movement, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Democratic Left Unity, Labor Party, Bangladesh JASOD, Gana Odhikar Parishad, National Gono Front, Bangladesh National Party, 12-party alliance, Nationalist Alliance, Democratic Platform, JSD, National Democratic Movement, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami, National Liberation Council, Gano Forum, Am Jonotar Dal, Left Democratic Alliance, and the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.
