The media in Bangladesh has greater freedom to work now than at any time in the past, said Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar. He emphasized that responsible journalism plays a crucial role in advancing society and the state.
Speaking with journalists during an interaction session at the VIP Lounge of Chittagong Press Club on Friday, February 7, Majumdar highlighted the strategic importance of Chittagong as the country’s major port and commercial hub. He pointed out the significant role of Chittagong’s journalists in reflecting this importance.
Majumdar also mentioned that recently, during the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Chief Adviser urged foreign investors to take advantage of the opportunities at Chittagong Port and invest in the region. He noted that investments in Chittagong would benefit the entire country, as it is the lifeline of the nation’s economy.
The session was chaired by Zahidul Karim Kochi, Secretary of the Chattogram Press Club. Mustafa Naeem moderated the event, which also featured remarks from senior journalists including former senior vice president of Chittagong Press Club, Kazi Abul Monsur, General Secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan Journalist Union Saleh Noman, and other local journalists.
Responding to questions from the media, Azad Majumdar reiterated that the government is committed to addressing inequality and ensuring balanced development across the country. He also commented on the spread of misinformation and propaganda on social media, stating that the government is taking effective measures to curb these activities and urged the public to stay vigilant.
