Mohiuddin Shah Alam Nipu, a valiant freedom fighter, respected educationist, and prominent figure in Bangladesh’s literary and social circles, passed away on August 1, 2025, following injuries sustained in a road accident. He was 73.
Nipu was returning from the 64th APEX Convention, held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Dhaka on July 31, when the accident occurred. Despite receiving medical care at Shamorita Hospital, Dhaka, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
He is survived by his wife Nasreen, a son, and a daughter, along with a wide circle of relatives, friends, and admirers.
His Namaj-e-Janaza was held after Isha prayers on August 2 at Jamiatul Falah Mosque, Chattogram and he will be buried at his ancestral home x in Mithachara, Mirsarai at 11AM on August 3, 2025.
A multifaceted personality, Nipu was a Senate member of the University of Chittagong, President of Kaldhara Parishad, Life Governor and National President (1994) of Apex Bangladesh, and former President of the Chittagong Creative Publishers Council. He was also the owner of Kaldhara Publications and Nibedon Printers, and had edited more than fifty books and periodicals, playing a key role in nurturing Bangladesh’s cultural and literary landscape.
His contributions extended to student leadership as well—Nipu served as Editor of CUCSU’s Annual Magazine (1973–74) and was known for his activism and literary engagement from his early years.
Friends and family remember Nipu as a gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply religious man. His longtime friend recalled, “Our friendship began in 1966 at Chittagong Collegiate School. He was elected Vice President in the school election, while I served as Chief Justice. That friendship evolved into a family bond when Nipu later married Nasreen, a classmate of my sister.”
Friends, colleagues, and fellow citizens have expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a man whose life was marked by service, intellect, and compassion.
