Chattogram has recorded 103.8 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours, causing widespread waterlogging and commuter suffering across the city, despite the weakening of the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
According to Ismail Bhuiyan, a forecast officer at the Patenga Meteorological Office, the rain is likely to continue for another two to three days due to active monsoon conditions. “Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the coming days, although the risk of strong winds has diminished,” he told BanglaNews on Sunday afternoon (July 27).
The rainfall, which continued intermittently throughout the night, has led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city. Commuters faced significant difficulties, with reduced public transport on the roads. Only a handful of rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws were seen operating, many of which charged extra fares due to the weather.
Students and guardians heading to schools and colleges, as well as office-goers on the first working day of the week, were particularly hard hit by the situation.
