The death toll from the air force jet crash into Milestone School and College in Uttara rose to 35 after a woman and a child died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday.
The deceased are Jarif Farhan, 13, a seventh grader of the English version section of the school, and Masuma, 38, a staff member who worked as an ayah (assistant).
“Masuma had suffered 90% burns on her body. She died around 10:30 am while undergoing treatment,” said Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the Burn Institute.
Earlier, at 9:10 am, Zarif Farhan, who had suffered 40% burns including damage to his airway, succumbed to his injuries, Dr Shaon said.
With the latest fatalities, the number of deaths recorded at the burn institute now stands at 16.
Meanwhile, 49 injured victims are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals — 39 at the burn institute, eight at Dhaka CMH, one at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, and one at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
The government on Wednesday published the list of victims who were killed or injured in the Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crash.
The tragic incident took place on 21 July when an FT-7 BGI fighter jet crashed shortly after taking off from the Kurmitola airbase, sparking a massive fire that killed dozens, mostly schoolchildren.
