46 Awami and Chhatra League activists arrested in Ctg

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested 46 leaders and activists from various political organizations, including the central Awami League, city Awami League, Jubo League, and the banned student organization Chhatra League, over the last 24 hours.

The arrests were made between 2 PM on Monday, February 3, and 2 PM on Tuesday, February 4, following a series of raids across various police precincts in the city.

Among those arrested are members of the central Awami League’s Religious Affairs Sub-Committee, including 70-year-old Mohammad Salamet Ali Chowdhury, along with several others: Alamgir Mia (32), Mohammad Alauddin (38), Sabbir Hossain Mondol (46), Arfan Uddin (33), Rahim Uddin Rajib (27), Mohammad Sazzad Hossain Riaz (27), Muhammad Arif Sikder (33), Mohammad Roni (39), Mohammad Shamim (28), Mohammad Shahjahan (40), Mohammad Zakir Hossain (22), Mohammad Sharif Uddin (22), Mohammad Nurul Islam (56), Mohammad Nurul Alam (55), Abu Ahmed (57), Mohammad Asifur Rahman (38), Abdul Malek Sawdagar (55), Mahfuzur Rahman (27), Miraz Uddin (24), Mohammad Parvez (27), Muntasir Abssar (23), Mohammad Nurul Zaman (23), Mohammad Ibne Mizan (45), Tuhin Murad (32), Mohammad Jahidul Islam (38), Mohammad Ishtiak Munna (35), Mohammad Ilyas (51), Abdul Momin Anjum (27), Abdul Ali (Kalu) (30), Mohammad Wahid (27), Mohammad Mojammel Tarek (24), Syed Nizamul Haque (28), Mohammad Golam Nabi (55), Mohammad Anisul Islam (Sohmik) (31), Mohammad Mahim (19), Mohammad Arif Hossain (24), Mohammad Shahidul Islam (Shaon) (24), Mohammad Ali Azgar (40), Mahmoodul Haque (50), Mohammad Arif (20), Mohammad Suman (30), Touhidul Islam (32), SM Selim Uddin (54), Mohammad Monir (36), and Mohammad Sani (29).

According to Mahmuada Begum, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of CMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, these individuals were arrested in connection with multiple cases under the Special Powers Act, the Anti-Terrorism Act, and for their involvement in violent attacks on students during the anti-discrimination student movement.
