At least seven people, including a college student, were killed in separate road accidents across four districts on Thursday and Friday.

In Dinajpur’s Birganj Upazila, two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a truck on Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 8:30am in the Kabirajhat area, said Abdul Gafur, officer-in-charge (OC) of Birganj Police Station.

Madhav Roy, 19, son of Kaushik Roy of Mashalpur village, died on the spot, while Dipu Roy (22), son of Madhav Roy of Naniyatikar village, succumbed to his injuries at the Upazila Health Complex.

The victims were returning home after drinking date juice in Nargun village of Thakurgaon when the truck hit them, he added.

The truck had been seized, but the driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.

In Rajshahi’s Charghat Upazila, a head-on collision between a truck and three motorcycles left one youth dead and five others injured on Thursday evening.

Charghat Model Police Station Inspector Abdul Khalek said the accident occurred in front of Charghat Technical College and School around 7pm.

The deceased, identified as Prabhat (32), son of Yakub Munshi of Gaur Shaharpur village, died on the spot.

In another incident, three people were killed and one person was injured when a private car lost control and crashed into an electricity pole on the Sylhet-Tamabil Road on Friday morning.

The incident took place around 11 am near Dhamri Beel in the Baghersarak area of Jaintapur upazila.

Abul Bashar Md Badruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaintapur Police Station, said the private car, traveling towards Sylhet, veered off the road and struck an electricity pole, leaving two people dead on the spot.

Locals managed to rescue two others, who were critically injured, and rushed them to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Muhibur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Inspector (ASI) at the Osmani Medical College Hospital Police Camp, confirmed that one of the injured succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, a college student died during a motorcycle race with a friend in Charbhadrasan Upazila of Faridpur on Thursday.

Hasibul Hasan, alias Ashraful Mondal (20), a first-year HSC student of Charbhadrasan Government College, hit a roadside tree after his motorcycle collided with another.

He was critically injured and died while being taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment later that night.

The accident took place around 1 pm in the MP Dangi area of Sadar Union. Two others were also injured in the crash.

Abdul Gaffar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Charbhadrasan Police Station, said legal action would be taken if a complaint is filed by the victim’s family.
