Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday vowed to fight against corruption, terming it the party’s next battle following its fight against fascism.
He made the vow while addressing the party’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
While speaking about what the future Bangladesh will look like, he said, “Inshallah, there will be another struggle. We have already fought against fascism, now we will fight against corruption.”
At the rally, Shafiqur also made several pledges if his party forms the government through the next general election.
“Today, standing before the people, I declare that in the days ahead, if the Jamaat-e-Islami wins seats in parliament and forms the government, no MP or minister will accept government plots and use tax-free vehicles. If lawmakers or ministers receive government allocations, they must submit reports immediately after completion of the work.”
The Jamaat leader said, “We will not tolerate extortion and corruption. This is the kind of Bangladesh we envision.”
Shafiqur suddenly fell ill while delivering his speech. Despite feeling unwell, he completed it sitting on the stage. Later, he was admitted to a hospital in the capital this evening.
