BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has dismissed discussions on electoral reforms, stating that there is no time to waste on such talks. Speaking at a rally organized by the Noakhali district BNP on District Judge Court Road in Maijdee this afternoon, Khasru criticized ongoing proposals for reforms, including proportional representation elections, local government elections, and the trial of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“There is no room for such discussions,” he said, adding that no one has entrusted these matters to those proposing them.
Addressing the issue of the interim government, Khasru expressed concerns over perceived bias. “People doubt your impartiality,” he remarked, pointing to statements from government officials that indicated favoritism. He emphasized that without the people’s trust, the government would lose its acceptance.
Khasru reaffirmed BNP’s commitment to representing the people’s interests and emphasized that the party’s focus remains on handing over power to an elected government through national elections. He also expressed the party’s willingness to present any reform proposals to the next parliament for discussion, including recommendations from commissions.
“Our priority is to implement our 31-point plan and deliver for the nation,” he concluded, assuring that there was no need to worry about reforms.
