Haidar clinches top spot in nat’l photo contest

M. Haidar Ali, senior photojournalist at Daily Purbodesh, has won first prize in the Ruposhi Bangla National Photography Competition 2025 — the first-ever top award for a Chattogram-based photojournalist.

His winning image was selected from nearly 500 submissions nationwide. Three additional photos by Haidar Ali were also chosen for exhibition.

Md. Rashed of Daily Samakal, also from Chattogram, won third prize, marking a strong showing from the port city.

The exhibition, organized by the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association, is being held at the National Press Club in Dhaka and features 91 selected works.

Sharmin S. Murshed, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs inaugurated it while special guests to the event among others included Obaid Jaigirder, Honorary Consul of Cuba; Hasan Hafiz, President of the National Press Club; Kader Gani Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ); Shahidul Islam, President of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ); and A.K.M. Mohsin and Babul Talukder, President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association.

The event concludes on June 3.
