Govt decide to return Ziaur Rahman’s Independence Award

The government has officially reversed its 2003 decision to cancel the Independence Award of former President Ziaur Rahman, deciding to return the prestigious honor to him. This announcement was made alongside the revelation of the recipients for the 2025 Independence Award.

 

A press release issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday confirmed that the government will recognize seven distinguished individuals with the 2025 Independence Award for their exceptional contributions to various sectors at the national level.

 

The recipients of the 2025 Independence Award include:

 

– Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam (posthumously) for Science and Technology

– Mir Abdus Shukur Al Mahmud (posthumously) for Literature

– Novera Ahmed (posthumously) for Culture

– Sir Fazle Hasan Abed (posthumously) for Social Service

– Mohammad Mahbubul Haque Khan, also known as Azam Khan (posthumously) for Liberation War and Culture

– Badruddin Mohammad Umar for Education and Research

– Abrar Fahad (posthumously) for Protest and Youth Activism

 

These individuals are being honored for their remarkable contributions to their respective fields, which have significantly impacted Bangladesh.
