The national election will be held as early as possible within the established timeline of December 2025 to June 2026, Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul confirmed on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters outside the State guesthouse Jamuna following a meeting between a BNP delegation and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Dr. Nazrul emphasized that the interim government is not seeking to delay the election for political gain.

“This is not about holding on to power,” he clarified. “There is absolutely no intention of delaying the election. The Chief Adviser has been very clear—June 2026 is the absolute deadline.”

He urged the public not to be misled by speculation, reiterating that the interim government is committed to the timeframe already announced.

Dr. Nazrul also noted that the BNP delegation was briefed thoroughly during the meeting and described the party as “sincere” in its commitment to political reforms.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present at the press briefing.
