The long-awaited elections to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall unions will be held on September 9, 2025, from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Chief Returning Officer Mohammad Jashim Uddin announced the schedule at a press conference this afternoon at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.

According to the schedule, the draft voter list will be published on July 30.

Students will have until August 6 to raise objections.

The final list of voters will be published on August 11.

Nomination forms will be distributed between August 12 and 18.

The deadline for submission is 3:00pm on August 19.

Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on August 20.

The initial list of candidates will be published on August 21 at 1:00pm.

The deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is August 25, with the final list to be released the following day by 4:00pm.

Voting will be held without interruption on September 9, Jashim said.

Counting will begin immediately after polling ends, with results expected on the same day, he added.

Jashim Uddin told The Daily Star that six counting centres have been designated for the 18 halls in the DUCSU election.

“After counting at the respective centres, the Central Returning Officer will announce the number of votes each candidate received. The ballot boxes will then be sealed and transported to the DUCSU Central Office at the Nawab Ali Senate Building, where the final results will be compiled,” he said.

“To ensure transparency, around 10 ballots will be counted both manually and with OMR (optical mark recognition) machines in the presence of the CRO and candidates’ agents. Once verified, the rest will be counted using OMR machines,” he added.

On the hall union results, he said they would be declared at the respective centres, although the ballot boxes would also be sealed and brought to the central office.
