Govt delaying elections to block BNP from Power, alleges Shamsuzzaman Dudu

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has accused the interim government of intentionally delaying national elections to prevent the BNP from returning to power through public support and democratic means.

Speaking at a rally organised by the Bangladesh Democratic Council in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday morning, Dudu said, “The nation is deeply concerned. It’s no longer clear what the government actually wants. We believe the election delays are a tactic to sideline the BNP and block its path to forming a government through the people’s vote.”

Calling for clarity from the authorities, the senior BNP leader demanded a specific timeline for the next general election. “This uncertainty must end. One moment it’s December, the next it’s June—such indecision is unacceptable. The government must announce a clear and concrete roadmap for holding elections, specifying both the month and year,” he added.

The rally also demanded information about the whereabouts of BNP leaders and activists who have been missing for years, including M Ilias Ali and Chowdhury Alam.

Dudu further alleged that the current political climate is being manipulated to protect individuals responsible for what he described as the systematic erosion of democracy over the past 15 to 16 years. “These elements continue to conspire under the government’s protection,” he claimed.

The BNP has repeatedly called for timely elections and a neutral electoral process, while the government maintains that it is following constitutional protocols. The standoff continues to fuel political tensions across the country.
