Shakib Khan’s ‘Borbaad’ dominates Eid box office

Since its release on Monday, Shakib Khan’s latest film, ‘Borbaad’, has taken the lead among the Eid releases, according to film industry sources.

The movie has been consistently running houseful shows, while other films like ‘Daagi’ and ‘Jongli’ are gaining traction, though many others are struggling due to limited screening slots in cinemas nationwide.

Directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, ‘Borbaad’ is one of several films released to coincide with the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, along with ‘Daagi’ by Shihab Shahin, ‘Jongli’ by Jaber Ahmed Shakil, ‘Chokkor 302’ by Sharaf Ahmed Jibon, ‘Antaratma’ by Wajed Ali Sumon, and ‘Jinn 3’ by Kamruzzaman Roman.

Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association senior vice-president, Mia Alauddin, confirmed on Wednesday that ‘Borbaad’ had taken over the majority of single-screen theaters, with overwhelmingly positive audience reviews. Initially screened in 120 cinemas, the film’s popularity prompted many theaters to increase its showings after just one day of release.

Owner of Madhumita Cinema Hall, Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad, reported that ‘Borbaad’ has been filling nearly every show since its release, with long queues forming for evening and night screenings. “We are happy to see the audience excited to buy tickets, especially for the evening and night shows. We expect even more viewers next weekend,” Nawshad shared.

Director Mehedi Hasan Hridoy also updated fans on social media, revealing that ‘Borbaad’ had 44 shows at Star Cineplex, with nine shows each at Jamuna Blockbuster and Lion Cinemas on Wednesday.
