A tragic collision between two passenger buses in Lohagara, Chittagong, on Eid-ul-Fitr claimed the lives of five people and left at least 15 others seriously injured. The accident occurred at around 7:25 AM on Monday (March 31) near the Chunati Jangalya Mazar Gate area.

The deceased have been identified as Md. Jahed, the son of Md. Parvez from the Padua Union’s Ahdar Manik area, Rifat (29), the son of Alam from the same area, Nazim, the son of Nurul Islam from Char Para, Zian Hossain Appu, the son of Amir Hossain from Sukhchhari Moulavipara, and Siddique, the son of Chattar from Delipara in Satkania.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a bus from Saudiya Paribahan traveling from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar collided head-on with a minibus coming in the opposite direction from Cox’s Bazar to Chittagong. The crash resulted in five deaths on the spot, while at least 15 others sustained injuries. Emergency services from the Lohagara Fire Station arrived promptly to rescue the victims and rushed them to various hospitals, including Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Fire Service Media Officer Talha Bin Jasim confirmed the incident and mentioned that the rescue operation was carried out by a unit from the Lohagara Fire Station.

Shubhranjan Chakma, the Officer in Charge (OC) of Dohazari Highway Police, stated that both buses were recovered and taken into custody. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after completing the legal procedures.

This location has gained notoriety as an accident hotspot, with a particularly severe incident occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic, where 12 passengers lost their lives.
