The Public Administration Reform Commission and Judiciary Reform Commission have submitted their reports to Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus today.
Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission, and Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman, Chief of the Judiciary Reform Commission, formally handed over the reports at the State Guest House Jamuna.
These submissions follow the establishment of eleven commissions tasked with reforming various state sectors after the formation of the government on August 8. The reports from the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Police, and Constitutional Reform Commissions were already submitted to the Chief Adviser on January 15.
In a briefing on December 17, the Public Administration Reform Commission proposed that 50% of promotions to deputy secretary positions be allocated to administrative cadre officers, while the other 50% would be for officers from other cadres. This proposal contrasts with the current ratio of 75:25, which has faced strong opposition from administrative cadre officers who argue that such a change would limit their promotion opportunities.
The proposal has sparked significant debate and criticism, with officials from 25 other cadres joining the protest. These officials have organized work stoppages and human chain demonstrations, calling for a uniform examination system for deputy secretary promotions to ensure equal opportunities for all cadres. Currently, there are 26 different cadres in the country.
