Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has replaced Brigadier General (retd) Sakhawat Hossain as the new home adviser, while Sakhawat has been made the de facto chief of jute and textiles ministry, as per a reshuffle of the interim government ordered Friday.

Earlier in the day, Jahangir was sworn in along with three others as advisers to the transitional government.

Jahangir, a former BGB director general, would also serve as the agriculture adviser.

Among the other three new advisers, economist Wahiduddin Mahmud was given the charge of planning ministry and education ministry; former secretary Muhammad Fouzul Kabir was appointed as de facto chiefs of power and minerals ministry, road transport and bridges ministry as well as railways ministry.

Former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumdar was incorporated into the office of Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

With the new appointments, the total number of advisers to the interim government now stands at 21.
