Amid escalating tensions over the Iran-Israel conflict, the first batch of 28 Bangladesh nationals in Iran has departed for Pakistan by road and has reached the border.

With the help of the Pakistani government, they will soon reach Karachi from the border, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday night.

From there, they will return to Bangladesh by air, added the ministry.

The Bangladesh embassy in Tehran will continue to assist with the repatriation of other Bangladeshis wishing to return until the situation in Iran stabilises.

The embassy is maintaining contact with Bangladesh citizens in Iran.

In addition, the embassy has launched two hotline numbers to facilitate communication between Bangladesh nationals and the embassy from the beginning of this conflict, the ministry added.

On Sunday, MoFA spokesperson Shah Asif Rahman said the government started the necessary process to repatriate all Bangladesh citizens living in Iran who wish to return to Bangladesh.

The process of bringing back others to Bangladesh will be completed in phases, said the spokesperson, adding that the ministry is in touch with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment regarding repatriation.
