Residents of some low-lying areas of the city have been suffering due to waterlogging caused incessant rainfall on Monday.
Frequenters, including HSC examinees, students of educational institutions, garment workers, office-goers, faced severe inconvenience due to submerged roads in the morning.
However, the logged-water started draining out slowly as the day advanced.
Sources said the rain that started on early Saturday continued till Monday afternoon with some breaks.
Met Office in the city’s Ambagan area recorded a total of 102mm rainfall till 12:00pm.
Assistant Meteorologist Abdur Rahman of the Met Office said rainfall is occurring due to active monsoon winds.
He forecasted that moderate to heavy rainfall will continue across the country until next day.
The city’s low-lying areas including Murapur, Bahoddarhat, Sholoshahar Gate No.2, Chawk Bazar, Chandgaon, Bakolia, DC Road, Kapasgola and Badurtala were inundated during the rainfall.
Water entered residences, businesses and commercial establishments in the areas.
Mentionable, following the assumption of office by the current interim government, an action plan to mitigate waterlogging in Chattogram city was formulated at the directive of the chief adviser in January last.
At that time, a target was set to ensure visible improvements to the waterlogging situation before the onset of the monsoon.
Consequently, Chattogram city has been experiencing improved condition this year, compared to the waterlogging caused in previous occasions.
