Two killed in Chattogram shooting attack on private car

Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting attack on a private car in Chattogram early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. near the entrance of Bakalia Access Road in the Chandgaon area under the Chawkbazar police station.

The deceased have been identified as Bakhtiar Uddin Manik and Md Abdullah, both aged between 30 and 35. Manik, a resident of Rangunia Upazila, was reportedly driving the car at the time of the attack, while Abdullah was from Hathazari Upazila. The injured, identified as Robin and Hridoy, are being treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

According to sources, the attackers, riding 4-5 motorcycles, chased the car from Rajakhali Bridge and opened fire relentlessly, causing panic among the passengers. Witnesses reported hearing the passengers scream for help during the attack.

Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Kabir of Chawkbazar police station confirmed that two people were killed, while the other two sustained injuries from the gunfire. Sources suggest that the attack might be connected to an ongoing gang rivalry between local gang leaders Sajjad Hossain, also known as Chhoto Sajjad, and Sarwar Hossain Babla. Sajjad was arrested earlier this month.

Authorities suspect that the victims may have been targeted due to their alleged connection with Babla’s group, with one believed to have informed the police about Sajjad’s whereabouts. Law enforcement has not commented further as the investigation continues.
