A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed on Saturday that they remain optimistic about Mahmudullah’s participation in the ongoing Champions Trophy, as no tear was detected in his scan.
Bangladesh is set to face New Zealand in a crucial match in Rawalpindi on February 24, following their 60-run defeat to India in the opening game.
The right-handed batsman injured his right calf muscle during the team’s first practice session and was unable to recover in time to play against India.
Mahmudullah, who scored four consecutive fifties in his last four ODIs, has been sidelined due to the injury.
“We are hopeful about his availability for the rest of the tournament as he is recovering well. However, the final decision will be made after the last practice session before our match against New Zealand,” the BCB official told *Daily Sun* on Saturday.
“We conducted a scan after his injury, and thankfully, no tear was found, which is a positive sign. Once he feels comfortable, he should be ready to play,” the official added.
Additionally, the official stated that Towhid Hridoy, who suffered cramps during his maiden ODI century, is fit and there are no concerns regarding his fitness.
