Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, former Dean of the Faculty of Marine Sciences at the University of Chittagong, has said that without trees, the environment will be destroyed. Speaking at a tree planting event, he explained that natural disasters are increasing mainly because the number of trees is going down. He encouraged students to become climate activists and to plant more trees to help protect the environment. He also urged them to raise awareness and inspire others to do the same.

He made these remarks as the chief guest during the opening ceremony of a tree planting program organized by the ‘Organization for Disaster Management Society (ODMS)’ at Kulgaon City Corporation High School in Chattogram on Wednesday.

The event was chaired by ODMS CEO M.R. Chowdhury Milton. Special guests included City Corporation Education Officer Rasheda Akter, Kulgaon City Corporation College Principal Aminul Haque Khan, The Daily Bangladesh Pratidin Chattogram Bureau Chief Mozumdar Nazim Uddin, Head Teacher of the school Nipa Barua, and social worker and organizer Lion Mohammad Sajjad Uddin.

Teachers and students from the school also attended the program.

During the event, ODMS announced that under this initiative, they plan to plant 10,000 saplings of various trees across Chattogram to help combat climate change and promote environmental awareness.
