The ‘Sandwip Diploma in Engineering Students’ Forum’ celebrated its 12th anniversary in a colorful event at JP Convention Center on PC Road in Halishahar, Chattogram, on Thursday (August 7).
The programme was attended by former members of the forum, politicians, journalists, professionals, student organizations, and representatives from various sectors of society.
Convener Meherab Hossain presided over the event, with Member Secretary Kamruzzaman Nishad and Tariqul Islam Sabbir moderating. BNP National Executive Committee Member Tariqul Alam Tenzing attended as the chief guest.
Other notable guests included Zahidul Karim Kachi, Convener of Chattogram Division’s Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad and Member Secretary of Chattogram Press Club; former Joint Convener of BNP North District Chattogram and former student of Chattogram Polytechnic Institute Engineer Belayet Hossain; President of the Association of Engineers Chattogram Engineer Jane Alam Selim; and General Secretary of the Metropolitan Union of Journalists’ Saleh Noman.
Among others present were Azmat Ali Bahadur, Jamshedur Rahman, Forkan Uddin Rizvi, Advocate Sekandar Badsha, and Mohammad Maksudur Rahman. Engineer Lion Md. Momen, Member Secretary of Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad Sandwip and member of the Forum’s Advisory Council, served as the keynote speaker. Special speakers included Advisory Council members Moktader Mawla Ripon, Engineer Mohammad Yusuf, senior member Mohammad Abu Taher, and Daily Shada Kagoj Editor Kefayet Ullah Kayser.
Joining virtually, Forum Founding President Engineer Jewel Afsar Raihan and Advisory Council member Engineer Main Uddin delivered speeches.
Speakers highlighted the vital role diploma engineers play in the country’s infrastructure and technological development, calling them key drivers in building the Bangladesh of tomorrow. They noted that diploma engineering education creates quick employment opportunities, reduces unemployment, and increases the supply of skilled manpower in the country.
The event also featured cultural performances, reminiscences, and presentations on future plans.
The Forum’s slogan for the celebration was: “Diploma Engineers – Tools for Nation Building.”
