Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali announced on Saturday that private security forces in residential areas, shopping malls, and markets across the capital will be authorized to assist the police and make arrests to maintain law and order during the month of Ramadan.
Speaking at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road, the DMP chief explained that experienced personnel from shopping malls and local private security systems in Dhaka will be appointed as police aides for the next month. These personnel will be empowered to act like police officers, including the authority to arrest criminals.
Ali added that the DMP will issue badges to these private security aides, granting them the same authority as the police. He further stated that if any of these aides are attacked while performing their duties, it will be treated as an assault on police, and appropriate legal action will be taken.
