Chittagong University (CU) student organizations have set a new example of political harmony by coming together under one roof to assist 2024-25 admission candidates and their guardians. The Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal and the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir have set up a joint admission assistance center, fostering a spirit of political unity. At the same time, other student organizations have also carried out their respective activities in support of the admission process.
On March 1 (Saturday), the first day of CU’s 2024-25 admission tests, the campus witnessed a collaborative effort among student groups. At the university’s Zero Point area, The Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir, alongside the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement and the Bangladesh Students’ Movement, each set up their own help desks. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Students’ Council organized their booths near the Faculty of Business Administration, and the Student Rights Council set up a stall at the Shaheed Minar premises.
Branch President of the Chhatra Dal, Alaudddin Mohsin, commented on this coexistence, saying, “At present, student politics should be based on coexistence, which we are witnessing to some extent. We hope that this unity will continue in the future. Just as we united across party lines during the July movement to bring down autocracy, we will continue to work towards rebuilding Bangladesh with tolerance from all sides.”
Branch President of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, Mohammad Ibrahim, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts, saying, “The Islami Chhatra Shibir has been providing continuous services, starting with Dhaka University exams. As part of this, we are offering free medicine, water, and other services to CU admission candidates through five booths. We will continue this service, Inshallah. We also thank other organizations for maintaining a cooperative relationship.”
Senior Vice President of the Chhatra Dal, Mamu-Ur- Rashid Mamun, highlighted the organization’s initiatives, saying, “We have launched several programs to assist the prospective students. With 20 motorcycles and 300 volunteers, we will continue to provide assistance, including financial help, to the students who will eventually gain admission.”
A student from the 2021-22 batch shared their thoughts, saying, “This picture of coexistence is beautiful. In the CU admission tests, both Shibir and Chhatra Dal are working together to support the candidates. I hope that such mutual coexistence, respect, and harmony will be established across all campuses in the country.”
It is worth noting that the 2024-25 admission tests for Chittagong University began on March 1. The first exam, for the ‘A’ unit under the Faculty of Science, marked the beginning of the admission season. This year’s admission tests are being held simultaneously across campuses in Chittagong, Dhaka, and Rajshahi, while the sub-unit exams will take place at the CU campus. A total of 271,239 students have applied for this year’s admission, an increase from last year’s 254,669 applicants.
