In a night to remember for Bangladesh cricket, Parvez Hossain Emon lit up the T20I stage with a blistering 100 off just 54 balls, powering the Tigers to a daunting total of 191 for 7. With nine sixes and five boundaries, Parvez didn’t just reach a milestone — he rewrote the record books.
The young left-hander became only the second Bangladeshi to score a T20I century, joining the former Bangladeshi star opener Tamim Iqbal, who struck an unbeaten 103 against Oman during the 2016 T20 World Cup.
But Parvez went one better, registering the fastest T20I hundred by a Bangladeshi and smashing the record for the most sixes in a single T20I innings by a Bangladeshi batter.
Speaking to the media after the match, an emotional Parvez credited Tamim Iqbal for inspiring his journey.
“Yes, I was well aware of Tamim bhai as he scored that hundred against Hong Kong, and I try to watch all his games,” Parvez said. “Alhamdulillah, I am feeling good as I scored a century, and after returning, I remembered that Tamim bhai scored the fastest century. I am happy because I used to watch Tamim bhai’s games from my very childhood, and my name came after him, so Alhamdulillah, I am feeling well.”
The innings wasn’t just a display of power-hitting, but also of composure under pressure. Bangladesh had lost wickets at regular intervals, but Parvez held one end firm, balancing aggression with responsibility.
“When the wickets were falling, I just tried not to change my intent. I was always waiting for my strength,” he reflected. “But at the same time, I was keeping in mind that I needed to take the game deep and carry from one side. I just tried to give my best, and Alhamdulillah for everything.”
