The National Citizen Party (NCP) has unveiled its 24-point manifesto for “New Bangladesh”, calling for the formation of a “Second Republic” and the adoption of a new constitution.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam announced the manifesto at a rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar today.
The manifesto’s key pledges include recognising the July uprising of last year and ensuring justice for those affected.
It also proposes restructuring the country’s democratic framework and state institutions, alongside comprehensive legal reforms to establish a justice-driven judiciary.
The NCP is advocating for people-friendly law-enforcing bodies, village parliaments, and stronger local governments.
It also stressed the importance of press freedom, a vibrant civil society, universal healthcare, and an inclusive education system aimed at national development.
Other priorities include promoting research and innovation, driving a digital transformation, upholding the dignity of religion, community, and nationality, and guaranteeing women’s rights, safety, and empowerment.
The party also laid out a vision for a human-focused, welfare-oriented economy, promising to tackle youth unemployment, encourage diversified trade and industrialisation, and ensure food security and the rights of farmers and workers.
The manifesto further covers sustainable use of national resources, planned urban development, modern transport systems, climate resilience, river and ocean protection, safeguarding the rights of Bangladeshis living abroad, a Bangladesh-first foreign policy, and a comprehensive defence strategy.
