An advanced Alcon Legion Phaco Machine has been inaugurated at Lions Charitable Eye Hospital, Chattogram with financial support from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) under the Vision Grant VIS25416/315B4. The addition of this modern equipment is expected to significantly improve the quality, efficiency, and patient recovery outcomes of cataract surgeries performed at the hospital.
A dignified inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday morning at the premises of Lions Charitable Eye Hospital, Chattogram. The event was presided over by the Project Chairman of Vision Grant VIS25416/315B4 and Chairman of the Chittagong Lions Foundation (CLF), PDG Ln. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury. The Phaco machine was officially inaugurated under the leadership of Lions Clubs International District 315-B4, Bangladesh (Lions District) and the Chittagong Lions Foundation (CLF).
Among those present at the inauguration were Ex-Chairmen of CLF PDG Ln. M. A. Malek and PDG Ln. Najmul Huq Chaudhury, PDG Ln. Dr. Sri Prakash Biswas, District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 315-B4 Bangladesh Ln. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed (Apu), Grand Administrator of Vision Grant VIS25416/315B4 IPDG Ln. Kohinoor Kamal, 1st Vice District Governor Ln. Md. Kamruzzaman Liton, Cabinet Secretary Ln. Abu Murshed, and Vision Grant Member & Ex-Cabinet Secretary Ln. Belal Uddin Chowdhury, Ln. Habibur Rahman, and Ln. Ashesh Kumar Ukil.
Also present from the CLF Governing Body were Chairman PDG Ln. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman PDG Ln. Kamrun Malek, Secretary Ln. Dr. Debasish Dutta, Treasurer Ln. Alhaj S. Zoha Chowdhury, and Associate Secretary Ln. S. M. Ashraful Alam Arju.
In addition, Director Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, Deputy Director Dr. Shabana Sultana, Assistant Director Ms. Insafe Hanna, Sr. Consultant Dr. Mossammat Afroza Akter, ophthalmologists of the hospital, representatives of various social service organizations and local dignitaries attended the event.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted that since its establishment, the Lions Charitable Eye Hospital has been dedicated to delivering accessible and high-quality eye care to the people of Chattogram and surrounding areas. They remarked that the introduction of advanced medical technology, particularly the newly installed Phaco machine, represents a major step toward aligning the hospital’s services with global standards. The equipment is expected to make cataract surgeries more efficient, less invasive, and faster, enabling patients to regain their vision with greater comfort and in less time.
Ophthalmologists of the hospital stated that with the new Phaco machine, cataract surgeries can now be performed to international standards. The advanced technology eliminates the need for stitches, reduces surgical risks, and allows patients to regain normal vision shortly after the procedure.
All attendees expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Clubs International Foundation for their generous financial support in procuring the modern Alcon Legion Phaco Machine under the Vision Grant VIS25416/315B4 Project.
